Xintiandi Celebrates the Year of the Monkey with Contemporary Art

On January 22, Xintiandi has started the partnership with and Dutch artist Peter Riezebos for an art exhibition to celebrate the Year of the Monkey. In the meantime, a series of cultural and arts activities with the theme of “ART XTD” kicked off. The exhibition combines contemporary art with famous monkey character in Chinese literature -Sun Wukong (also known as the Monkey King) and the Mountain of Flower and Fruit. The whole installation creates a unique visual experience for visitors.

The work of art exhibition to celebrate the Year of the Monkey “the Mountain of Flower and Fruit”

This time Xintiandi has specially invited Mr. Cao Qitai, founder and Chief Art Officer of, together with Dutch artist Peter Riezebos, to design the art installation for the coming spring festival. Inspired by the story of Monkey King, the installation, a unique version of “the Mountain of Flower and Fruit”, is a mixture of Cao’s oriental visual language and Riezebos’ Western perspective and artistic style. At the same time, in conjunction with the unveiling of the installation, a solo exhibition by Peter Reizebos entitled “Existentialism: Lines” is open to public at The House from January 22 to 24. In the exhibition, Peter Reizebos demonstrates his unique perspective of reality and brings a different Monkey King in his mind, bringing residents of Shanghai will no doubt enter a world of freedom and neo-expressionism.
