“Excellence et Savoir-faire Dialogue France-China” takes Visitors on a Trip across Time and Space
From October 18 to November 8, the “Excellence et Savoir-faire Dialogue France- China” was held in Shanghai Xintiandi Southern Square and Southern Mall, to showcase exquisite Chinese and French art and handcrafts. As one of the activities of Shanghai Xintiandi’s “Xtyle You 2014, Shanghai Xintiandi Autumn & Winter Fashion Season”, Shanghai Xintiandi cooperated with the high-end brand Shang Xia and the Fondation Flag France on a dialogue across time and space, exhibiting century old, classic handicrafts from the French Château de Versailles, the Musée National de Céramique de Sèvres, the Garde Meuble National, and the premium handicrafts of Shang Xia, which represents exquisite Chinese contemporary handcraft.
With 2014 marking the 50th anniversary of France-China relations, Shanghai Xintiandi celebrated the milestone by giving Shanghai citizens a close-up experience of classic French art as part of its contribution to fostering a more diverse cultural exchange between the two countries. Numerous exquisite handicraft items, some dating as far back as the 18th century, but also contemporary pieces, were exhibited, including tapestries, lace embroideries, porcelain, sculptures, fabrics and silverware. Visitors could experience these French collections together with traditional Chinese furniture made with mortise and tenon joints, as well as delicate hand-made bamboo filament inlayed handicrafts.
Concurrently, many works of art from French artists were exhibited in Shanghai Xintiandi Southern Square, including the “Wandering City Art Exhibition”, which delighted visitors and customers by shaping public spaces with the new ideas and inspirations of these contemporary artists.
