Cooperating with “Roots & Shoots” to Promote Green Practices and Build Engaged Communitie

In late September, THE HUB teamed up with “Roots & Shoots”, the well-known international organization which educates youths about the environment, to initiate a series of activities themed “Green gathering at THE HUB”. The events aimed to promote ideas on how to live a low-carbon and sustainable life based on green practices like “Organic Farming”. As the only community center that directly connects with the Hongqiao transportation hub, THE HUB was certified as complying with both the American LEED and the Green Buildings standards, with a greening rate of 40%. The project takes advantage of the available spaces together with the building structure to offer green spaces, such as the “roof garden” and “vertical greening”, creating an “urban oasis” for residents of the local community and passengers travelling through the Hongqiao transportation hub.
On the green experience day, “Roots & Shoots” volunteers taught students from Hanghua Number One Primary School a fascinating and interactive class on organic farming in the green garden corner of THE HUB. During the class, the volunteers showed the students what low-carbon lifestyle is all about. In order to bring green and sustainable lifestyle to the community, THE HUB will continue the cooperation with “Roots & Shoots” to initiate an “Organic Farming” program in nearby schools to construct green gardens for kids.
